Telos ID Fingerprint Collection System Evaluated by State of Florida for Compliance With State and Federal Standards

ASHBURN, Va. – Feb. 15, 2011 – Telos ID’s secure fingerprint collection system has completed testing by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and was determined to comply with both state and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regulations and standards.
The company is now listed among Livescan Device Vendors and Service Providers who have voluntarily chosen to have their equipment and electronic fingerprint data submission systems evaluated to verify compliance with both state and federal standards.
“In order to attain authorization, we had to go through a two-step process,” said Tom Ayers, director of identity management engineering for Telos ID. “The first step was to show that we have a hardware and software solution that meets the FDLE standards for submission of both Florida and national criminal histories. The second evaluation authorized our complete solution as one of the approved systems that can be used to submit fingerprints to the state.”
Since August 1, 2010, people who work with vulnerable populations, such as in health, child, and elder care, have been subject to new, more stringent, requirements that require criminal background checks. State law now requires applicants to submit fingerprints for verification before they can be hired by public or private companies, or even as a volunteer. In Florida, this is known as a Level 2 check.
In July, Telos ID announced its strategic alliance with Inquiries, Inc. to establish IDVettingTM, a qualified outsourced service provider through which qualifying organizations can perform electronic biometric (fingerprint) history checks of the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) database, and receive results in a matter of hours. A fingerprint match is the “gold standard” of criminal record checks. It establishes a concrete match between an individual and a record, based on a unique biometric identifier.
